Day 01 : Singapore to South Africa (departs SG at 0205 hrs)
Internal flight transfer to Kruger National Park
Today, we will travel with Singapore Airlines to Johannesburg, South Africa. The flight will take about ten and a half hours. Transfer flight to Kruger National Park shortly after our arrival in Jo’berg.
Our coordinator will meet us at the arrival hall of the domestic airport, and we will proceed immediately into the National Park, which is a short drive away.
Lunch is served in the safari vehicle, and you will get your first taste of a wild safari meal. We will proceed slowly towards our camp, where we will stay for the next 4 nights. However, do get ready your cameras as we will be shooting en-route to camp!
12/09/2011 to 14/09/2011
Day 2-4: Kruger National Park
On a photography safari, participants need to set off early in order to take advantage of the best lighting. Morning call is at 5am, and after a round of South African biscuits and homemade coffee, we set off at 6am sharp to look out for wildlife.
Breakfast and Lunch will be served on Safari, as it would be quite a distance and can be disruptive to go back for meals.
Dinner will be served back in camp.
15/09/2011 to 17/09/2011
Day 5-7: Kruger National Park to Big Cats Reserve
After our morning drive we will proceed slowly towards the exit and transfer to another vehicle to get to Big Cats Reserve. Lunch is served upon our arrival there.
After a hearty lunch, we will proceed for a game drive and check out what customised pictures we can get of the animals here. As this is a private reserve, we do not need to keep to the roads and can go offline (and get really close) to the wildlife.
This is the place where we will get that “National Geographic/Discovery” feel.
We will stay at Big Cats for 3 nights.
18/09/2011
Day 08: Big Cats Reserve to Forest Camp
After breakfast at Big Cats Reserve, we will drive on to another private reserve – The Forest Camp. This is our base for that unique opportunity for flight shots, and also a close encounter with exotic reptiles and some creepy crawlies.
Lunch is served upon our arrival in an alfresco forest setting, and a short briefing will be given on the flight shots. We shall then proceed on to photograph the marabou storks and vultures, as the birds descend in their hundreds from nowhere to feast on the prepared buffet spread.
After getting the flight shots, we will hang around till after the last light before proceeding back for our well-deserved dinner.
We will stay 2 nights here at the Forest Camp.
19/09/2011
Day 09 : Forest Camp
This morning, we will get to the reptile park, where a lot of wildlife documentaries and photos were taken. Our high-trained animal handler will meet us, and we will proceed immediately to photograph the range of animals they have.
Get close up images of chameleon, sungazers, tarantulas, scorpions and even poisonous snakes like the cobra, puff adders or even the infamous black and green mamba. If you’re lucky, you may even get to witness the cobra spitting venom and the chameleon shooting its tongue out! There will of course be opportunities for you to feel some of these intriguing animals.
In between, we will take a short break and head back for lunch before coming back for more action. This will be a full day shoot.
This will be our last night on safari. Overnight still at Forest Camp.
